A weekend at the Stephen Joseph Theatre.
On 23 September, 2017 some thirty friends and colleagues from the first years of the Drama Department at Manchester University came together for a celebratory weekend at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough. Many of those who came were seeing each for the first time in fifty years and they were joined by a number of theatre practitioners including Stephen’s biographer Terry Lane and the Lighting Designer and Theatre Consultant, Richard Pilbrow.
The weekend was hosted by the theatre with Sir Alan Ayckbourn contributing a memorable paean to Stephen on Sunday afternoon during a public events. The academic Dr Paul Elsam and SJT Archivist, Simon Murgatroyd talked about Stephen Joseph and his trail-blazing work and his legacy at the SJT and this was followed by anecdotal panel discussion with Alan Ayckbourn and Joanna Tope, with contributions from the audience entitled “Remembering Stephen Joseph”
